As Winston Churchill once remarked, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." I would like to thank you for giving of yourselves to make life better for those less fortunate as part of your involvement with For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation.
You are the calm in the storm, the bright lighthouse in the dark, for those burdened by the traumas of cancer. Each of you play a critical role as part of the FPS community and it is because of your involvement that we are able to help people like Jeff and Angela. Angela was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma when her children were 4, 9 and 10 and has been battling this disease since January 2001. She and her family are traveling to the FPS home near Orlando in July 2012 and Angela remarks about this trip,
“I have been enduring non-stop treatments since January 2008. Our last family vacation was in December 2006. I feel time is slipping away and would love to have this time with my family again to laugh, relax and feel normal again. This chance would mean the world to me!”
Angela and Jeff are part of the FPS community because of their connection with the Phillips family – we met Jeff as part of the Haas Demo Day held in Fall 2011 and Angela was subsequently nominated by the National Institute of Health in March 2012. We are humbled and privileged to give the gift of time, love and laughter to this special couple and their three lovely children. We also look forward to opening our program doors to other patients at NIH! Many thanks to each partner in the Phillips community and for giving of yourselves to make life better for others!
