ISSM 2012 Team Challenge

This years International Sales and Service Meeeting was full of company culture with a March Madness twist as 20 teams gave their best presentations to reinvent the sales and service relationship. 

In heat 1, teams broke into (4) rooms with (5) groups to compete for their spot in round 2 by room audiance vote. For heat 2, the final 4 went head to head making their prentations live infront of all of ISSM for a chance to place 4th, 3rd, 2nd and to take the ISSM crown for 1st place and each member bringing home a cold $1000.00 cash. Inaugral of New HFO at Kolhapur

Grand Opening Ceremony of HFO Kolhapur - INDIA:

  Grand Opening of HAAS Factory Outlet – Kolhapur was held on 17^th of March’12. Marketing activities were started well in advance, from installing hoardings, helium balloons, banners, newspaper ads to inviting each customers personally by Mr. Darekar, excitement could be seen not only in the eyes of internal customers but also external customers. And all those hard work paid off on the inauguration day when almost all the dignitaries invited had dropped in for participating in the ceremony, toll had crossed 300 mark consisting Managing Directors and General Managers who were potential as well as our regular clients.

We had invited Mr. Kulkarni ( Chairman of F.I. Group) as Chief Guest for the ceremony who owns over 50 machines of HAAS and a well renowned personality in the state. Lighting of lamp was done by Mr. Terrence Miranda, Mr. Haresh Shah, Mr. Rupesh Ranjan and Mr. Sanjay Deshpande. After the opening ceremony,  guests were headed to a Club for the cocktail dinner party after which the ceremony was concluded. The event overall was a big success as we could market our Services well among the invited guests and they also showed their appreciation towards our products and services.

The Phillips 50th Celebration by HFO/Lance Division was held at the Adventure Aquarium on Saturday, January 14th.  Our Partners received wrist bands in order to enter early so they could explore the amazing exhibits which included:                         

.><((((º>  Sharks – Penguins –Seals – and yes, even Hippos -  just to name a few  <º))))><.

This is one of the Sting Ray's that was caught when a nuclear plant was shut down in Northern New Jersey . . . They had stayed around the plant after the summer because of the discarded warm water cooling the reactors . . . Closure of the plant would have caused them to die in the cold winter water of the Atlantic Ocean  . . . 

 

 

 

At 12 Noon, the HFO/Lance partners met in the Currents Ballroom. 

 

 

 As you can see, the wall opens up to the Shark Tank which was a source of entertainment all afternoon.

It was a pleasure to finally meet the family members of our partners.  We spent some time exchanging stories of what we had discovered that morning and the excitement on the children’s faces was endearing.

There was a Magician mingling in the room while the Hors d’oeuvres were being served and we were choosing which prize we wanted to win. 

We viewed a presentation of pictures taken at all the Phillips Divisions around the World. 

 

          

          

After the presentation, Alan spoke of how far we had come over the 50 Years and Ed addressed our success at the  present time.

After dinner, the Magician started his show.  He had everyone, young and old  mezmerized for the entire show! ! ! !

 

 

Young and old enjoy the "slight of hand" by Magic Man, Mike Miller.  He combines magical effects with his imaginative sense of humor.

Mike Miller surprised us with his live animals.  His audience participation entertained us, thus creating a "magical experience".  He was delightfully clever and we will remember the show for a long time to come.

While we were enjoying our delicious desert, all sorts of prizes, ranging from remote control car, young lady fish necklaces and gift cards of all kinds and dollar amounts, were being awarded. 

For those families who did not win, a Consolation Prize bag was given out along with a "Surprise Bag" for the all the kids which contained Star Fish, Sea shells and candy.

Since there was more exploring to do, we thanked everyone for coming and gave them the option of staying in the room or go to the exhibits that they missed earlier in the day.

China Spring Festival

Spring festival is definitely the most glorious festival in China.  All family members gather together and celebrate the beginning of the lunar calendar new year. The celebration usually starts 24^th Dec. of lunar calendar and end with the Lantern Festival at 15^th Jan. of lunar calendar.

In yje old days, we keep leisure and celebrating the whole duration. Since life phythm become faster and people become busier, the celebration has become simple and short.

Now, the celebration starts at Spring Festival Eva. Everyone goes back to his/her hometown and the families decorate thier homes with all kinds of happy elements.  Chinese knots, antithetical couplets, lantern and paper-cuts are the most popular formats to express our good wish for happy, healthy rich, longevity.

Spring festival dinner is maybe the most important dinner among the whole year. We had fireworks before and after the dinner.  During dinner time, all families watch the National Spring Festival Gala, which can date back to 30 years ago.

 

Accompanied by the sound of firecrackers, the old lunar year ends and the new comes. Fireworks and firecrackers competing in full bloom since 0:00 a.m. Spring festival morning and will lasts to about 9:00 a.m.

The first thing we do in Spring festival morning is fire fireworks. Kids will get cash in red envelop from parents when they get up. Then we have some candy and nuts before breakfast.

Visiting relatives and friends are no doubt the most exciting thing during the holiday. We carry goodie bags to visit relatives and friends, and kids can get red envelops from relatives and friends.

Some kids from big families can get thousands of yuan after gathering all the red envelops together.

 

 

 

Traditionally, Lantern Festival (15^th Jan. of Lunar calendar) is the end of the Spring Festival. But nowadays, people start to work at 7^th Jan. ( Lunar calendar ) and make the lantern festival another celebration.

Attending temple fair maybe the highlight of the lantern festival. All kinds of traditional performances in temple squares. Tasty foods are gathering form all over the country. And guessing riddles written on lanterns will be also an interesting game during the temple fair.

 

 

All family members will eat Tang Yuan (glutinous rice balls with meats or sweetie inside) at Lantern festival dinner to end the month-long holiday.

BTW, year 2012 is Dorgan year according to the lunar calendar.

Halloween - a very scary ocassion!

On October 31st we celebrate the holiday Halloween in the United States!  I really have no idea as to how or why this holiday exists, without typing it into Google or another search engine.  But I can tell you what people do to have fun and celebrate Halloween and add some pictures to help out too.

Even though many people consider this a holiday for kids, it has grown in popularity among adults each year as well.  On October 31st every year, kids will dress up in costumes of all kinds (super heros, ghosts, witches, princesses, animals, and just about anything you can think of!  The more different the costume, the more fun!  Around 6pm or so (after work hours but before it starts to get dark outside) kids will put on their costumes and grab a bag (to hold candy) and the parents will walk with the child around to the homes in their neighborhood (the houses with a light on outside - this signifies the house is participating in Halloween).  The child walks up to the door and yells out "TRICK OR TREAT" and holds their bag open.  The home owner will then give the child a piece of candy.

As mentioned, adults have really been enjoying Halloween as much as kids and often participate in many of the other Halloween events including-carving faces or designs into pumpkins.  You cut the top off the pumpkin, scoop out all the gooey insides then carve a face or design on the front side and put a candle inside of it.  The pumpkin is set outside and when it gets dark you light the candle to create a spooky glow!  Here are pumpkins my family carved:

People often have Halloween parties (can be adults only, kids only or families).  Dressing up in a costume is a must at all Halloween parties and there are scary decorations and Halloween themed treats and food.  Here are some photos from the Halloween celebration at the Hanover office for Phillips.

Decorations around the office included skeletons, hanging bats from the ceiling, a mad scientists' lab, spider webs and spiders all over, a giant rat, and vultures!

 Fake brain and fake fingers in a jar - a fake scientists' laboratory in our kitchen, along with mice and bugs!  Ewwwwwww!

Here is the graveyard cake that I made for the office, complete with edible tombstones, edible skeleton and bones, chocolate tree and edible pumpkins and ghosts!  The cake flavor is "red velvet" which is a dark red color - spooky!

Other fun Halloween activities include watching scary movies or going to a haunted house (not a real one, just one created for entertainment).  Although it is not the most popular holiday in the US, it is probably one of the top 4 holidays here and widely celebrated.

Inaugural India Haas Demo Day

 
The Haas Demo Day in India was organized at 3 locations- Pune, Ahmedabad and Ludhiana. Since it was in the month of July, the rain showers were crazy but CNC SSIPL was lucky that in spite of it the event had an exuberant footfall. The customers were excited to receive a 2 GB USB flashdrive from Haas Automation.

During Demo Day customers were eager to see the new fast and furious DT and the monster machine ST-30.

Sandvik, Delcam and Jergens were the partners and delivered informative talks on their respective areas.

Let’s celebrate!   A few weeks ago, we here at PET felt that we have a need to celebrate what we have today knowing that the industry is going through a difficult time.   Our promise to each other: Get together this summer, be active together and have some great fun!   So here we go: Let’s play golf, even though most of us have never played. 

Our 1st PET Golf Tournament !  

We contacted all our vendors for any support and we all pitched in to make it happen. We had an amazing response from our vendors receiving many great gifts which we used for the longest drive, the closest to the hole and hole in One!   The event was uplifting and everybody was looking forward with great excitement to the late afternoon. We even went the night before to a driving range and practiced, warmed up, improved our swings and introduced the newcomers to the sport.  

We all realized what a great team we have no matter what we are trying to accomplish.  Our relationships will last forever, on a professional and personal level, wherever our paths will lead to in the future.   We all know that the economy is still facing degrees of uncertainty at the present time, but we are still  focused and our commitment to each other and to the organization is greater than ever.   For me personally, this is one of the greatest experiences in my life working with such professional, happy and always determined Partners. The more difficult it gets the better we are!  The last two years are just a proof for it. We all enjoy what we have today. The present is the most important time of anybody's life.  If you don’t pay attention to the present you miss out.  

Here we are! Thank you for the great time we had!
